Flight Instructor (CFI / CFII / MEI)

Flight instructors are the backbone of the aviation community. They instruct the next generation of pilots and provide continual training to all pilots. Becoming a flight instructor is a great way to build hours to work towards an airline job while teaching others about aviation.

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

Our Certified Flight Instructor course will give you the foundational skills you’ll need to become a safe and effective flight instructor. No matter what your background or experience level, you will feel more than prepared for your CFI checkride. All of our CFI students have immediate employment opportunity at Avian Flight Center upon successful completion of their checkride.

CFI Course

  • Ground: Approximately 20 hours of ground instruction. The first 8 lessons will be exclusively ground lessons focusing on the foundations of teaching and how to communicate your knowledge to students effectively.

  • Timeline: Approximately 6-8 weeks depending on student availability.

  • Spin Endorsement: Can be completed next door to Avian Flight Center at Old Thyme Aviation.

  • Written Exams

    • Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI)

    • Flight Instructor - Airplane (FIA)

  • Lesson Plans: Can be purchased from a third-party source or created yourself. You will need lesson plans for every maneuver you will eventually be qualified to teach as a CFI. Our staff will help you get started and this will be covered extensively in your first few lessons.
